You're definitely right about timing. The 90s was a very specific, formative period for electronic music and it can't simply be replicated.

However my main advice to producers (and anyone engaged in creative work) is to keep your head down, lock yourself in the studio and don't come out until you've created something truly exceptional. And that might take years of work.

Hard things are hard, and they take time and effort to achieve. Too many people these days think success should come immediately and that feeds dirctly into the quality of the output (or lack of quality, to be more accurate).
