FOUNDATIONS: PSYCHICK WARRIORS OV GAIA
Freeform man and machine explorations from some unsung heroes of 90s techno.
It’s Friday.
I’m relaying the foundations.
And I’m also on a tight turnaround so I’ll keep the chatter brief and let the music do the talking.
Psychick Warriors ov Gaia formed in the 1980s, but properly kicked into gear in 1991 with the release of their Exit 23 single.
A proper live electronic act in the classic sense (i.e. multiple artists wrestling with hardware). With a genuine, anarchic free party pedigree and aesthetic that is sorely lacking in today's polished, corporate, extraordinarily boring music 'industry' (yak).
Very much from the Spiral Tribe school. IYKYK.
They were highly prolific and, in the modern era at least, criminally underrated.
To the music, a few gems:
Ov Biospheres and Sacred Grooves: a Document ov New Edge Folk Classics (1992)
Ascendant, tribal, organic electronica for acid tripping at a forest rave. Brooding, humorous, human. A belter.
It’s a proper album: listen from start to finish.
Record of Breaks (1995, KK Records)
A slick, minimalist masterpiece. Refined and polished deep ambience and techno grooves that sit comfortably alongside the best of e.g. Plastikman’s output from the same era.
Yes, that good.

Orbital - Lush 3-4 (Warrior Drift) (Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia Remix)
Classic, purist techno without a single sound out of place. A perfect blend of form and function.
Makes me want to hit the dance floor.
Oh, best we don't forget their Peel Session
Thanks for listening.
Blessings.
