This week I’d like to introduce you to one of the Great Mixes of House Music.
Spencer Kincy aka Gemini Live @ Deep In The Flowers, Dallas - 27-07-1996
I seem to remember first hearing about this set from Ben UFO. He spoke about the inspiration he took from the raw, visceral, on-the-edge-but-never-quite-losing-it mixing. Tunes getting slammed in, mixer running hot, crunchy as hell, sweat no doubt dripping from the ceiling. An artist clearly not feeling the need to be too perfect, or take things too seriously. Driven by gut and passion. The way it should be done.
You can hear the crowd losing it from time to time, picked up through the needle (yes that happens when there's no mic plugged in). In fact I have an 8-hour set from Mr UFO himself at Make Me back in 2013 where you can hear the same thing happening. Note to self: ask Ben (yet again) if he’ll let you put it out.
Anyway, I won't try and over-intellectualise this Spencer Kincy set. Just lock in for two and a half hours of pure fire. A relentless torrent of high-grade dance energy from the golden era, delivered by one of the OG masters.
Ultimate respect for this one.
Tracklist very helpfully linked in the YouTube comments.
Oh, and if you want to know more about Gemini aka Spencer Kincy this profile (and related links) from 5mag has all the goodies.
As you were.
