RUBIN: BLOC VOL. 1
A studio mix recorded for Bloc in December 2015. A great time for electronic music, escpecially in the UK. Feels like much longer than 10 years ago for some reason.
Wotcha.
Rubin here, with your weekly dose of electronic goodness.
This week sharing an old mix from my own archives - Bloc Vol. 1
I had the distinct pleasure of being resident at Bloc for a few years at their London warehouse and also programming the Drum and Bass stage at the weekenders.
I seem to remember this being the first (and only) instalment of what was supposed to be an ongoing mix series. Bloc went into meltdown shortly after it was released. I’m fairly sure these things are not related.
Find our more about them / that here.
Although it's romanticised much less than e.g. the 90s or the dubstep era, this was actually a really a great time for electronic music. The mix has a heavy focus on UK producers operating in what was probably being called 'post dubstep'. Where British sub bass know-how and engineering prowess were being deployed at lower tempos and everything from techno to garage to breakbeat hardcore was being thrown back into the mix.
Give it a spin.
